Got to Syracuse
Since leaving home the first 3 days were drive time, stopping in Charlotte, NC and Lickdale, PA. Just for the change we had left I-95 in SC and traveled north on I-81. It was a much more pleasant driving experience. We then stopped for Friday and Saturday nights outside of Syracuse at Oneida Lake (town of Sylvan Beach) and used the days to go down memory lane and prowl the neighborhoods where I grew up and even found the house and grade school where Irene went to 4th grade. T’was fun. During the search we stumbled onto the Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota. Just so happened that this was an induction weekend. It was late in the program when we got there and the ceremonies were winding down but did get to see former middle weight champions Carmen Basilio and Marvin Hagler as they signed autographs outside the motel entrance. Not exactly Hollywood but hey when in Canastota you gotta go with the flow…
